Case Study: Custom Truss Big Screen Rig for THE OAK, ASTON CLINTON

The Brief

The Oak, Aston Clinton – wanted to put on major sporting events and outdoor film nights in their beer garden, but needed something more permanent and professional than a screen propped against scaffolding poles or hired in piecemeal every time. The screen needed to be mounted high enough and stable enough to be seen from every table in the garden, able to stand up to being outdoors in UK weather, and simple enough for staff to put up and take down around the pub’s regular events calendar without hiring riggers each time.

What We Did

We built a custom aluminium truss frame sized and braced specifically to carry the weight and wind-loading of a large outdoor screen, with a footprint wide enough to stay stable on the garden’s paving without needing to be dug in or permanently fixed. The frame breaks down into sections that store flat over the off-season and go back together the same way every time, so there’s no guesswork for staff when a big fixture comes up.

Alongside the screen rig, we added printed banners across the base of the structure to carry sponsor branding and event details, plus a couple of feather flags near the garden entrance to flag up “Big Screen Sports” to passing trade. As with our exhibition builds, everything was produced as one matched set, so the whole set-up looks like part of the pub rather than borrowed kit.

We also provided a short build sheet so the team could rig and de-rig the screen themselves ahead of tournaments, rather than relying on us to be on-site for every event.

The Result

The Oak now has a permanent, reusable big-screen structure they can put up in under an hour whenever there’s a major match or event, rather than hiring one in each time. It’s turned the beer garden into a genuine draw for match days, with the branded banners and flags doing double duty as extra advertising for sponsors and passing footfall alike.
