Acoustic Feature Wall & Branded Acrylic Logo for West Herts College Beauty
The Brief
West Herts College was refurbishing its beauty rooms and wanted the space to feel like a professional salon rather than a standard classroom — somewhere students would be proud to train in and that reflected the standard of a real working beauty environment. Alongside the practical refit, the college wanted a feature wall that gave the room some visual identity, plus clear branding to mark the space out as the newly relaunched beauty department. It needed to look considered and finished, not like signage bolted onto a wall as an afterthought.
What We Did
We designed and installed a decorative acoustic panel wall as the room’s feature wall, chosen both for the visual texture it brings to the space and the practical benefit of improving acoustics in a room full of hard, reflective salon surfaces — mirrors, tiling, and equipment all tend to make a room noisy and echoey otherwise. The panels were laid out to give the wall real depth and pattern rather than a flat panelled surface, turning what could have been a plain partition into the standout feature of the room.
Over the top of the panelling, we produced a circular cut acrylic piece printed with the college’s beauty department branding and mounted it centrally on the feature wall. Cutting the acrylic to a circular shape rather than a standard rectangular panel meant the branding sat as its own distinct object against the texture of the panels behind it, rather than looking like a sign stuck onto a wall. The print was matched precisely to the college’s brand colours and logo artwork, and the acrylic itself was finished and fixed so it reads as part of the room’s fit-out rather than an addition.
Because the feature wall and the branding needed to work as one piece, we planned the panel layout and the position and size of the acrylic circle together from the outset, rather than treating them as two separate jobs — making sure the logo sat centrally and at the right scale against the panel pattern behind it.
The Result
The beauty rooms now have a genuine feature wall that gives the space a professional, salon-quality feel while also improving the acoustics of the room day to day. The circular acrylic logo gives the newly branded department a clear, polished identity the moment you walk in, and the combination of texture and branding has turned what was a functional teaching space into one the college is happy to show off to prospective students and visitors. It’s a good example of what we can do when a school or college wants signage that does more than just display a name — here it’s doing double duty as both branding and a genuine interior feature.
